ABOUT US

We are Locaria Open, a Community Interest Company formed to provide open source software and open data for the benefit of communities. We started out in early 2023 with the launch of our Locaria software platform designed around the capture, publication and dissemination of location based data. We're on a journey to help communities discover themselves and improve their lives through data.

We have open sourced our entire software platform. We recognise that open source software lives to serve the communities it faces rather than increase shareholder value.

OPEN DATA

Locaria absorbs and generates open data. Open data frees developers to use their skills and imagination to build new value and services wihtout the encumbance of restrictive licenses or fees.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT

Locaria Community Interest Company has been created to create software, service and data products, particularly, but not exclusively for the publication of location-based information for community benefit.

DATA OWNERSHIP

We believe that individuals and communities should own the data they generate and that is personal to them. We exist to promote this ethos and curate data for the benefit of the true owners.







ACTIVE PRESCRIBING

We've created a portal to support individuals and link workers in finding activities linked to social prescribing. We've done the work to consolidate large volumes of event and organisational data suitable for active prescribing. Our portal works locally and nationally quickly connecting individuals with suitable events

COMMUNITY PORTAL

Our community portal connects individuals, organisations and businesses within a community by publishing events, services and information relevant to each other. Individuals can quickly find items of interest whilst businesses and organsiations can easily publish them. Our portal connects and grows these communities whilst curating usage data that is owned within.

EDUCATION AND HERITAGE

Our heritage portal allows organisations to publish data, stories, images and other information to a wider community. This can be anything from local historic points of information to details of the lives of others who fought in battles gone past.

FEATURED PROJECTS

Locaria has been used to create a local authority noticeboard for customers, an interactive map of all sailors involved in the battle of Jutland and a Business Improvement District portal aimed at connecting local people to their businesses.

OUR SERVICES

Our main skills are in software development and service provision linked to location based data. We know how to quickly consume data and republish it for the benefit of the serving community.

SOFTWARE

We develop, customise and maintain our Locaria platform for the benefit of communities within the UK.

SERVICES

We operate and maintain cloud services for our communities. We help them setup, configure, customise and grow their specific engagement services.

DATA

We create open data and use open standards to share it freely with others. We support the OpenActive and UKReferral standards. We are supporters of the Open Data Institute and will never monetise data for any other purpose than serving the community which created it.

LOCARIA is an open source platform for publishing location data either via a web based interface or API. LOCARIA is designed to be lightweight, easy to customise and extendable. LOCARIA is designed to be low maintenance and highly scalable. It will always be open source and available for free for those wishing to publish maps and location data.

These organisations will benefit from; access to free software enabling them to publish information, access to datasets and algorithms designed to enhance health, happiness and well-being and access to expertise in open data creation, maintenance and publication.
